Biography

 

Tom has thirty years experience owning a real estate company while continuing to list and sell. He managed over 400 rental properties. Tom managed the Veterans Administration owned properties for nineteen years. Mr. Mahlum has some experience in commercial sales and leasing. Tom has written over ten continuing education courses for North and/or South Carolina including:

“Listing-A Two Act Play”

“1031 Tax-Free Exchanges of Real Property”

“The Forms Course”

The following are Dearborn courses taught multiple times by Mr. Mahlum:

“Real Estate and Taxes-What Every Agent Should Know” written by Vern Hoven

South Carolina PL5 course and new agency law course.

In 2004 Dearborn Publishing published Mr. Mahlum’s book Understanding Tax-Free Exchanges.

Mr. Mahlum teaches the “Broker-in-Charge” course for the North Carolina Real Estate Commission about 25 times per year.

 

Teaching

 

Mr. Mahlum has averaged teaching 125 four-hour courses per year throughout North and South Carolina. These classes include the North Carolina mandatory “Update Course” (4 hours) 25-35 times per year for 13 years, various four hour elective courses 30-35 times per year, Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) course (2 day plus 1 day for elective course) 3-4 times per year, Graduate REALTOR’S Institute (GRI) course, and considerable in-office training.
